EPL: Pathetic, loads of nonsense – Pennant slams Ronaldo for refusing to apologise to Ten Hag
Former Liverpool winger, Jermaine Pennant has slammed Cristiano Ronaldo for failing to apologise to his manager, teammates and fans over his ‘arrogant’ behaviour during their 2-0 win over Tottenham.
The club released a statement immediately and said a disciplinary action would be taken.
Ronaldo was said to have refused to come on as a substitute during the game and later walked down the Old Trafford tunnel before the end of the match and left the stadium straight away.
Manchester United’s statement on Thursday said that the Portuguese would be dropped for the match against Chelsea this weekend as part of his punishment.
The former Real Madrid and Juventus star himself then released a statement in the hours after that saying ‘sometimes the heat of the moment gets the better of us’.
Pennant told talkSPORT: “Pathetic. Absolutely pathetic. At the end of the day, be a man and own up to your mistakes. Say ‘hands up, I messed up here and I sincerely apologise to firstly my teammates, my manager, the club and the fans’.
“That statement there, he’s not taking accountability there and there’s no apology.”
Pennant noted that the Portuguese’s statement failed below standard, adding that he should have used the statement to put himself back into the team instead of saying how he has done this or done that.
“It’s a load of nonsense. It’s just PR for him and not what he should be doing,” he said.

EPL: Patrick Vieira names ‘different’ team that could win title, warns Arsenal, Man City
Crystal Palace boss, Patrick Vieira has warned Manchester City and Arsenal of a ‘different’ Manchester United that could snatch the Premier League title from their fingers.
The Arsenal legend believes that the Red Devils are a ‘different’ proposition under Erik ten Hag.
After a poor start to the season which saw them suffer a 4-0 defeat to Brentford and a home loss to Brighton, Manchester United have found their stride to climb into the Champions League places.
Manchester United could close the gap between them and league leaders to just three points if they could beat Crystal Palace on Wednesday and defeat Arsenal on Sunday.
And Vieira is insisting that the Red Devils must be taken seriously as they prepare to play Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
“When you look at their last couple of games, the number of wins and how close they are to the top, I think they can be [in a title race].
“It’s a different United [to the one we saw last season].”
