Manchester United striker, Edinson Cavani, remains eager to leave Ralf Rangnick’s side and join Barcelona despite the Blaugrana dropping out of the UEFA Champions League, Mundo Deportivo reports.
Recall that Barcelona was eliminated from the Champions League after losing 3-0 to Bayern Munich last Wednesday.
Fortunately for Barcelona, their participation in the UEFA Europa League has not deterred Cavani from moving to Camp Nou next year.
Cavani’s desire is to play for the Catalan club irrespective of what competition they are playing in.
The Uruguay international is motivated to help turn Barcelona’s fortunes around.
Barcelona had been looking to strengthen their attacking options in the January transfer market, but there are now fears their European demotion will put off potential targets.
Xavi Hernandez’s side had been eyeing a cut-price move for Cavani as well as a swoop for Manchester City’s Ferran Torres, with the doubts surrounding Sergio Aguero leaving Barca bereft of options upfront.
The report added that Cavani fears he will only have a bit-part role under Rangnick at Man United and is eager for more consistent, more playing time so he can help his country’s push for World Cup qualification.
The 34-year-old forward is out of contract at Old Trafford next summer and would likely be available for a nominal fee in January.
AFCON 2021: We’d have beaten you with 10 men – Eguavoen hits back at Tunisian coach
Austine Eguavoen has responded to the Tunisian coach’s comment where he said the Super Eagles were predictable going into their round of 16 battle at the Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
After overcoming the Super Eagles 1-0 in the highly contested match, the Tunisian gaffer told his press conference that Nigeria was predictable.
He boasted that his team nullified Nigeria’s threat by clipping the wings of their wingers, especially Moses Simon.
In response, however, Eguavoen said that Nigeria made efforts and created chances to beat Tunisia even with ten men after Alex Iwobi was sent off.
“When you talk about the Tunisian coach talking about the team being predictable, that’s not 100% correct,” Eguavoen told the press.
“Our wing play is our strength but the only thing is that we have to vary it, we tried to play through the middle which means open up the field and play from the sides, then the ball must come in Awoniyi’s feet or Iheanacho’s feet but it wasn’t coming.
“Why? Because they had a lot of midfield players who tried to block the line of pass.
“We are not a team who want to play long ones behind defenders who possess the ball very well.
“Even at that half chances were being created and towards the end of the game playing with ten we could have equalised and won the game.”
EPL: Tuchel confirms player to miss Chelsea vs Brighton game
Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has suggested that Ruben Loftus-Cheek will miss his side’s Premier League clash with Brighton due to injury and positive COVID-19.
Recall that Loftus-Cheek missed Chelsea’s previous clash against Aston Villa last Sunday.
Chelsea will, on Wednesday night, host Brighton in a Premier League tie at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues head to the game after beating Aston Villa 3-1 in their last Premier League tie.
“We have infected people who have three vaccinations, we have infected players without vaccination, so we have everything,” Tuchel told Chelsea’s official website.
“Ruben Loftus-Cheek is injured and suffers from Covid [ahead of Chelsea vs Brighton game],” Tuchel added.
“So for the Brighton game, I need to talk to the doctors and to the physios and to the fitness department, and then we will try to find solutions.”
EPL: Azpilicueta, Alonso reveal secrets behind Tuchel’s success at Chelsea
Chelsea duo, Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso have revealed the secrets behind manager Thomas Tuchel’s success at Stamford Bridge so far.
Azpilicueta and Alonso won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup under Tuchel, who took over from Frank Lampard in January, this year.
The Spaniards are now chasing Chelsea’s first Premier League title since 2017.
Speaking on how Tuchel was able to turn things around so quickly for Chelsea in less than a year, Azipilicueta told Metro UK ahead of the Blues’ Premier League clash with Manchester United on Sunday, “There was not a lot of time, there were games every few days and there was good work in the meeting room, every day in training and every game trying to improve.
“Results bring confidence too, which was important. Of course, we knew that we could still fight for trophies and we were very happy to end the season in the way we did.”
Also speaking, Alonso added, “It was different from day one. I remember the manager’s first game against Wolves (a 0-0 draw). We had one session to prepare for that and you could already see the difference.
“I don’t know why but it was a good feeling and I think everyone felt the same way. We went on to get better and better until the end of the season.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently on top of the Premier League with 29 points from 12 games ahead of the Man United clash.
