Michael Owen predicts Man City vs Arsenal, Chelsea vs Huddersfield, Leicester City vs Man Utd, others

Published

on

Former Premier League and La Liga striker, Michael Owen has tipped Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to beat Unai Emery’s Arsenal 4-1 in Sunday’s Premier League fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

He also predicted Chelsea to beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 in today’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

According to him, Manchester United will defeat Leicester City 2-1 on Sunday in the Premier League fixture at the King Power Stadium.

Owen, however, said that Liverpool will beat West Ham 3-1 in Monday’s Premier League fixture.

Owen told BetVictor: “Strange as it seems, I wonder if City scored too early against Newcastle midweek? Whatever the reason for their lethargic almost complacent performance they never brought their ‘A’ game to St James’ Park although that shouldn’t take anything away from a terrific win for the Magpies.

“City have now lost three league games having taken the lead and, when the dust has settled on the 2018/19 Premier League season, that might just be the difference as to whether they retain their title or not. Arsenal were no match for City on the opening day of the season and I can’t see them stopping a City side who will have been wounded by their north-east reverse. Michael’s prediction: Man City 4-1 Arsenal.”

Commenting on the Chelsea vs Huddersfield game, Owen said: “You must go back to 1996 for the last time Chelsea lost a Premier League game by a four-goal margin, but I expect the Blues to bounce back from their mauling at Bournemouth midweek against bottom of the table Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge.

“The Terriers have failed to score in their last five Premier League games and could not break down 10-man Everton at the John Smith’s Stadium earlier in the week. Things look bleak for new Town manager Jan Siewert although they certainly played with plenty of passion against Marco Silva’s side. Chelsea’ superior class to prevail. Michael’s prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Huddersfield Town.”

On the Leicester City vs Man United game, Owen said: “Both sides came from behind to pick up a point midweek and Leicester impressed me enormously at Anfield where I felt they were good value for the draw.

“That said they have lost their last couple of home league games and I enjoy watching this new Manchester United side – something I couldn’t and wouldn’t have said earlier in the season.

“United have won their last five away games in all competitions and are clinical on the break. I feel the Red Devils will edge what promises to be a hugely entertaining game. Michael’s prediction: Leicester City 1-2 Manchester United.”

Commenting on the West Ham vs Liverpool game, Owen said: “West Ham have lost their last four league games against Liverpool and conceded four goals in each of those losses, but they have won their last couple at the London Stadium and will be going all-out to put behind their recent away defeats at AFC Wimbledon and Wolves where they didn’t manage to muster a single shot on target.

“The Reds will have been disappointed not to have taken full advantage of Manchester City’s slip-up at Newcastle against Leicester, but they are five points clear with fourteen games to go and the title is in their hands. I expect to see Jurgen Klopp’s side return to winning ways on Monday evening. Michael’s prediction: West Ham 1-3 Liverpool.”

Manchester United have tabled a £17 million-a-year deal, in a bid to lure Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus this summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The transfer could see Paul Pogba also return to Juventus.

Ronaldo’s future is likely to be one of the biggest sagas of the summer window.

It is understood the Portugal captain is eager to leave Italy, but Paris Saint-Germain is his preferred destination.

But with no deal offered yet from the Ligue 1 giants, Manchester United is said to have swooped with a tempting offer for their former player.

The Red Devils are willing to pay Ronaldo £17m a year to bring him back to Old Trafford. And with Pogba’s situation at the club unclear, he could be used as a makeweight in the deal.

Sporting Lisbon and Real Madrid are also being talked about as potential destinations for Ronaldo, but the finances could be an issue with a number of big clubs cash-strapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mbappe vs Giroud: Pogba clears air on ‘rift’ between France teammates

Published

on

France midfielder, Paul Pogba, has cleared the air on a ‘rift’ between teammates, Kylian Mbappe and Olivier Giroud.

Recall that Mbappe felt ‘attacked’ and ‘angry’ following Giroud’s comments that he was unhappy with France’s lack of cohesion in attack after Didier Deschamps’s side defeated Bulgaria 3-0 in their final Euro 2020 warm-up game on Tuesday evening.

Reacting to the development, Pogba insisted that there is a ‘great atmosphere’ in the French camp ahead of their Euro 2020 campaign.

Asked whether there has been any tension or rift between Giroud and Mbappe, Pogba told a pre-match press conference ahead of the Euro 2020 campaign: “No, the only tension is on the back and legs!

“There is always a great atmosphere with everyone. Between Olivier and Kylian, there is nothing. Or at least there has been nothing in front of me.

“Maybe what was said was conveyed incorrectly,” he added.

France kicks off their Euro 2020 campaign against Germany next Tuesday.

The World Cup champions will also face Portugal and Hungary in Group F.

Ferdinand, Shearer, Lineker predict Euro 2020 winner

Alan Shearer, Rio Ferdinand and Gary Lineker have all predicted that France will win Euro 2020.

The French will expect to add a continental triumph to their World Cup success.

Dider Deschamps’ team conquered the world in Russia three years ago, with the squad still boasting of Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and N’Golo Kante.

Karim Benzema has also returned from a five-year exile to add more strength to the already deadly attack.

“France to win it. They have got talent all over the pitch,” Shearer told the BBC.

Ferdinand added: “France have got the most depth and the most talent, that is why they are my favourites.”

Lineker however believes defending champions Portugal could yet retain their crown, but has still backed Les Bleus.

“It’s hard to look beyond France – they were losing finalists five years ago, they won the World Cup three years ago and now they have Karim Benzema too.

“They will be improved and they have brilliant young players too. They have to be favourites.

“Portugal are not exactly an outsider because they won the thing four years ago but they have a very good team and they will have a chance,” he said.
